Enough exercise during your ride!

A new month is just around the corner and this month we will be highlighting the theme of nutrition and exercise! As a driver, you mainly spend the day sitting, which is comfortable, but not always good for your body. It is important that you maintain a good posture while driving.

It is well known that exercise is very important for your body. As a truck driver, this is sometimes still a challenge, because you often travel for a long time. Truck drivers also often have to deal with irregular and changing working hours, which often results in an unhealthy life. More and more companies are recognizing that they need to improve the quality of life of their drivers and more and more companies are also seeing that it is paying off. In this article we give you advice on how to get enough exercise during your working day as a truck driver!

Of course, you sometimes stop on the way to eat or refuel. Moments like this are important for moving. Take a walk and do some exercises. No idea which exercises you can do? We give you a number of tips which exercises you can easily perform:

  • Push-ups: Lie on your stomach on a flat surface. Then put your hands shoulder-width apart and push yourself up. This is the starting position. Then you slowly lower yourself to the floor, where your chest should not touch the floor
  • Sit-ups: Lie flat on your back and place your legs at a 90-degree angle. Place your hands near your ears and gently move your head towards your knees. When your elbows touch your knees (roughly) then slowly lower yourself again.
  • Plank: Hold your body straight on elbows and feet for fifty seconds. The name of this exercise says it all: you form a straight plank from head to toe.
  • Wall sit: You stand with your back against the wall with your feet about 40 to 50 centimeters from the wall. Then you lower and lower down until the angle between your upper legs and your lower legs is 90 degrees. You can then keep this up for as long as possible

It is also possible that you bring a number of attributes yourself, such as a fitness mat and some weights. With these items you can do even more fun exercises during your break and train your muscles optimally

Are you in a traffic jam? Even then you can move, every little helps! Move your arms and shoulder. If you move every time when possible, then you are at the recommended 30 minutes of exercise per day.

In many places in Poland, open-air fitness centers have been set up especially for truck drivers. They offer drivers the opportunity to relax during their breaks. This plan is part of the "Truckers Life" campaign, which is subsidized by Mercedes-Benz Polska. Other countries in Europe are also on the schedule, we hope that the Netherlands will be added soon!
