As part of Week van de AfvalHelden (Waste Heroes Week), we visited some of our colleagues who work in the waste industry. For this, we interviewed Finnish Elias, who at 20 years old is at the beginning of his career.
At 24/7 drive, we have a diverse range of staff working within the transport and logistics sector. We train candidates to become the drivers of the future, we have colleagues who work in the warehouse, we employ truck drivers with many years of experience and drivers who are still at the beginning of their careers. Among them is Elias.
We met him at Cure, the company that handles waste collection in the municipalities of Eindhoven, Valkenswaard and Geldrop-Mierlo. Since a couple of weeks, Elias has been in the Netherlands where he has been working as a loader at Cure.
Elias explains that the job market currently looks different in Finland than in the Netherlands. "In Finland, it is quite difficult to find a job, even as a truck driver. A friend from the Netherlands joked that I should come and work here then because there are plenty of vacancies here."
Elias completed a broad education in Finland that translates into something like construction worker and driver of construction machinery. "I have experience driving various construction machines such as an excavator and work as a C driver. It was physically demanding work with often long days." His friend's comment lingers in his mind and as soon as he starts Googling he comes across 24/7 drive.
He did not find the move to the Netherlands stressful. "24/7 drive arranged everything well for me. Besides a new job, they also took care of my accommodation," Elias says. "Very nice, especially when you come from abroad and everything is new here. Fortunately, I knew exactly when and where I needed to be."
In Finland, Elias has already gained some experience as a truck driver. Despite now starting work as a loader first, Elias is really looking forward to it. "I really want to gain experience, first as a loader to get to know the work, but soon also as a driver on the garbage truck," he says.
We would like to wish Elias all the best and many safe kilometres at Cure.
