In this blog, we'll tell you what a day looks like as a supermarket distribution driver. It's a job in itself and you definitely need to have some muscles! So keep reading and who knows, maybe we'll convince you to become a supermarket distribution driver!
Start of the day
Your day starts at 3:45 AM. First, you pick up the keys of the truck, then you hop in an check all the documentation. Next you start docking so you can load the truck and hit the road.
Loading
Loading is done together with the warehouse employees. They make sure the right containers are scanned so they're delivered at the right supermarket. Thet railer is alwas loaded with products for several supermarkets. In most cases this is for two supermarkets with products such as milk, fruit and vegetables.
Unloading
Once the loading is done, you'll leave for your frist address to supply the supermarket. When you arrive at the supermarket, you can start unloading with the help of the store employees. When all containers for that store are unloaded, you'll load the containers with returns. These include for example the empty bottles that you hand in at the supermarket. Then you continue your way to the next address. When your trailer is empty and only contains returns, you bring them back to the distribution centre.
End of your working day
On a trip like this, you typically supply an average of four stores, load twice, unload four times and bring back returns from all the stores. You park the truck at the distribution centre and around 1:15 PM you're finished working.
